Being Debt Free Today Is More Than Just A Dream

A report given earlier this year gave some startling statistics.

  • The total debt in America during the summer stood at $57 trillion.
  • That debt equates to $186,717 per person in the land.
  • A family of four would show a debt of $746,868.
  • Debt grew this year by $32,104 more per family than the previous year.

It is for that reason everyone in America needs to learn how to become debt free today. Debt is not going to fall away naturally. It is also a sure statement that our government is not going to bail out every wage earner in the United States. How then can we become debt free today?

Most consumers do not know how to cure their debt problems. Many do not realize they even have one. One report states that for every dollar an American wage earner brings home he pays out $1.22. We are spending more than we are making. Is it not obvious that the majority of Americans do not know how to handle their money?

There are many online sites that are quite capable of providing help for those who want to overcome their debt problems, to those who want to be debt free today. One site suggests developing a plan that will show success quickly. The secret to becoming debt free today is to pay off your smallest debt first. By paying of the credit card with the least amount owed provides you with quick feedback and a stimulus to continue. One thing to remember, though, is to continue paying on all your debts, but only pay minimum payments.

As you pay off each debt, whether credit card or other debt, recalculate your total debt and find the next lowest balance debt and continue with the program but with a twist. Take the amount of money that is equal to what you were paying on the ‘paid-off’ debt and apply it to the next debt’s payment. This will increase the amount far above any minimum payment you may have been making. Soon this debt will be erased and you can move on to the next debt doing the same application of paid-up payments added to the usual payment. Some counselors call this the ‘Snowball Plan’ because if you continue working the program it will create an avalanche of debt eradication until, sooner than you originally thought, you can be debt free.

To be debt free today requires more than just paying off your debts. It requires some education and understanding as to how to really use credit and budgeting your income. Having an emergency savings program in effect is also part of the overall program. Read up on how to develop a good program to become debt free today.
